Governor Sanwo-Olu Has Called On Both The Executive And Legislative Arms Of The Government To Work Together Towards the Development Of The Blue Economy
During a courtesy visit by members of the Senate Committee on Marine Transportation led by its chairman, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni at Lagos House, Marina, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized the need for the executive and the legislature to invest more in the development of the blue economy sector in Nigeria. He urged everyone to work together to reduce bottlenecks and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Lagos State, particularly in the blue economy sector. The Governor lauded the visit of the Senate Committee on Marine Transportation to Lagos State for oversight functions, saying it was timely and strategic.
He urged them to provide adequate recommendations and suggestions to the Red Chamber on advancing the country through the blue economy. The first step is to thank Mr President (Bola Tinubu) for creating a new ministry, the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. The National Assembly has taken the right direction by establishing a proper committee to oversee this crucial national assignment. The blue economy is transforming our economic development, and both the executive and legislature must support this area to better develop, supervise, and monitor our economic activities. We need to aggressively reduce business bottlenecks around facilities and Lagos so businesses can thrive, generate the desired revenue, keep people employed, pay taxes, and create wealth for themselves, their families, and the nation.
The Lagos, Nigeria governor expressed his happiness that a team is dedicated to developing the blue economy sector. He believes that the industry and the entire economy will benefit significantly from the engagements by working together. The Tinubu-led administration was also commended for their prompt attention to all the bridges leading to various Lagos State ports. It was mentioned that Lagos is critical to the blue economy and that 70% of the activities in the sector take place in Lagos. The Senate Committee on Marine Transport visited Lagos to address challenges such as non-state actors, illegal collectors, and ocean surge issues that hinder the growth and development of the blue economy in Nigeria.
